Residents and visitors in Florida's West Central region are often amazed to discover that some of the best things in life really are in your own back yard! Trails are one good example. This region has become well known nationally for its trail systems.
The task of connecting trails within west central Florida to permit bicyclists and pedestrians to travel across the entire region has been a long-term goal of the CCC. For a view of this network see the Regional Trails Map.
Below are two outstanding examples of regional trails.
This trail was opened in 2001 as part of the Suncoast Parkway. The trail will eventually serve as a key regional connector, linking other projects such as the Good Neighbor Trail, the Upper Tampa Bay Trail and the Pinellas Trail. (Photo courtesy of Florida's Turnpike Authority.)
Friendship Trail provides an outstanding example of regional cooperation. Owned by Pinellas and Hillsborough Counties jointly, it is currently used by 600,000 walkers, joggers, runners, skaters, bicyclists and fishermen annually.
